The Concept of Space and Time in History

The Concept of Space and Time in History - As a study of science, an event can be said to be a historical event if the event has two dimensions, namely the dimension of space and the dimension of time which cannot be separated from one another. An event that does not have a spatial dimension cannot be said to be a historical event.

Likewise, if an event does not have a time dimension, it cannot be said to be a historical event. Historical events must have these two dimensions, both the dimensions of space and the dimensions of time. Below will be explained about the concept of space and time in history.

The Concept of Space in History

The world is a space (spatial dimension) where events occur, namely changes due to human actions or specific actions of historical actors in the process of time travel. Space covers the entire surface of the earth. It is in this dimension of space that humans as objects of history carry out their activities.

The historical process takes place within the boundaries of space and time. With the limitation of space, a review is carried out on changes according to the place or location of the occurrence of historical events. Thus, the division of history based on the breadth of space can be in the form of local history, national history and world history. So it can be said that the concept of space in history is related to where a historical event occurred.

The Concept of Time in History

Time is a basic concept that exists in history, because events can be said to be a phenomenon and are stated as historical facts if they are shown when they occurred. The concept of time in history includes time or tempo (time), namely the continuity process and time (duration), namely the unity of time continuity which includes; past, present and future times. This decapitation is based on human consciousness.

Every society in the world has a different view of time. Western society views time as a straight line (linear) that runs from the past, present, to the future. People who adhere to Hinduism view time as a cycle that repeats without end.

In the history of the Indonesian nation, the period of time begins with the pre-literate era, the Hindu-Buddhist period, the Islamic Kingdoms period, the colonial period and the independence period.

History is a science that talks about society in terms of time while geography talks about society in terms of space. History and geography are sciences that cannot be separated from one another in studying an event.

That is a brief explanation of the concept of space and time in history.
